What happens in a lesson
Most of the hour is spent speaking. Students ask and answer questions, act out everyday situations and play games that only work if they use the language. Listening, reading and writing are practised as well, around what they have just said.
Activities are set for each group’s level, so beginners are not rushed and stronger students are kept busy. Getting things wrong is part of learning, and nobody is put on the spot.
Teachers call this the Communicative Approach.
